Using Works to Further Your Message: How Copyright Law Applies to Communities of Faith

This workshop will explain the structure of copyright law and how it applies to the religious community. Religious organizations can use copyright law to their advantage, regardless of whether the goal is to provide a revenue stream for the mission or to promote a message to the largest audience possible.

This workshop will focus on the permissible use of copyrighted works created outside of a religious organization and the use of works created by the organization itself.

“ When most people think of copyrights they think primarily of artists - authors, painters, musicians, etc.

However, the definition of copyright is much more expansive. It covers anything that is created, not just popular literature, music, or movies.

Copyright protects all forms of expression regardless of the purpose for which the item was created. ”

~ Kevin Keener in Register, register, register. Should you register the copyright in your work?
